Life’s a Breeze!

Located in the heart of Towson’s college-town on Joppa Road stands Bahama Breeze Island Grille, overlooking the city. Bahama Breeze is conveniently placed in walking distance of Towson University, going towards Towson Town Center Mall. The restaurant is near various shopping centers and features free valet parking for guests (tips are encouraged).

Ambiance

With its Caribbean themed environment, guests are sure to leave the restaurant with a warm smile on their face, feeling as though they’re on a wonderful, relaxed, luxurious island. “The atmosphere was created to invoke feelings of an island escape for guests,” said Louis Jones, a manager at Bahama Breeze Island Grille. The restaurant is known for its outside dining. However, the interior of the restaurant features wooden ceiling fans, tables and chairs. Table booths have padding with vibrant illustrations of an island landscape featuring palm trees and sand. Bright shades of green, red and yellow are another common theme found on the walls throughout the restaurant. The bar stands in the center of the restaurant resembling a wooden shack. Lights are covered by dark lamp shades creating dim lighting and a personal, relaxed sensation throughout the restaurant.

Bahama Breeze has live music at varying times between Wednesday and Sunday. When live performances aren’t in session, you can be sure to hear the rhythmic sounds of drums as a playlist featuring Caribbean music such as, reggae and salsa, fills the restaurant.

The Menu

The menu offered at Bahama Breeze features a variety of Caribbean inspired dishes at affordable prices ranging from $6-23 dollars. Jones said there are Americanized dishes for customers, as well. “We have dishes like our ribs, but we put a Caribbean spin on it by adding homemade Guava barbecue sauce,” Jones said. Happy hour specials offering discounted drinks and half off appetizers run Monday through Friday 4-6 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday 9-11 p.m.

On Saturday evening I went to Bahama Breeze for the first time and left wanting to eventually come back for more. My waitress, Gabrielle Taylor, was dressed in all black as she offered my table suggestions of a variety of customer favorite’s off the menu.

Appetizers and Drinks

For an appetizer, we ordered Bahama Breeze’s famous crusted coconut shrimp, which definitely lived up to its reputation. For the 21 and over crowd Taylor suggested two restaurant drink favorites called the Rum Runner and Bahaman Mama. My table agreed that the Rum Runner is more sweet compared to the Bahama Mama, which is much stronger.

Entree

Once appetizers and drinks were served, my entree came shortly after. I ordered the Seafood Paella, a Caribbean classic, featuring chicken, fish, muscles, sausage, scallops and shrimp served steaming hot over a big bowl of bright, golden yellow rice. The combination of all the different protein sources satisfied every taste bud and food craving I could’ve possible had, all in one dish!

Dessert

Sadly the dining experience was coming towards an end, but of course I had to order dessert. Rebecca’s Key Lime Pie is a new favorite of mine. Every bite was savored and left me daydreaming that I was on an island in a beach chair enjoying my delicious, refreshing treat.

Customer Service

Just as I thought my daydream would turn into a nightmare once the bill came out, my waitress asked me if I had my college identification. After telling her yes, she informed me that students receive 25 percent off their bill, which was a pleasant surprise.

The customer service was impeccable to say the least! Jones informed me that the restaurant’s parent company, Darden Restaurants, value the millennial generation. “You all dictate our world culturally and we value your generation, especially being located in a college city,” said Jones. Bahama Breeze will definitely fulfill an amazing experience featuring great company, entertainment and food.
